Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park encompasses both Chwaka Bay, a low lying, flood-prone area, and Jozani Forest in the south of Zanzibar Island. The park counts as the only national park and forested area on Zanzibar Island. Taking a walk in the park gives visitors an overview of the diverse natural habitats particularly the swampy areas found in the national park as well as dry bush land, shrub land and mangroves dotting the park.
Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is home to the famous Zanzibar red colobus monkey and a variety of other wildlife species, including the near extinct Zanzibar leopard, Aders Duiker, Blue Sykes Monkeys, Bush Pigs, Antelopes, Elephant Shrews, Chameleons and numerous birds and butterflies.
To explore Jozani Park, enjoy nature walks on the recently established network of nature trails. Towards the south of the forest is a unique boardwalk to help visitors get access to the mangrove as have a look at this remarkable ecosystem.
