Bertoua is a city in south-eastern Cameroun, capital of the Eastern Region and the traditional home of the Gbaya people. Nestled between savannah to the north and forest to the south, Bertoua is an excellent destination for trekking holidays. You can also enjoy a wide range of Camerounian cuisine including the national dishes of Ndolé, a dish of stewed nuts, leaves and fish or beef, and bobolo, fermented cassava wrapped in leaves.
Cameroun has tropical weather with a lot of rainfall in the southern region. A good season to visit is between November and February, which are cooler and drier months. The nearest airport is Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport, which is around 368km from the city's centre, or around 5 and a half hours’ drive.
Bertoua is a good destination for foodies, with fresh cocoa and coffee produced by the city and the surrounding forest and savannah providing fresh ingredients for the traditional Cameroonian cuisine.
